Registration
What is a 'registration'?
Registration is
where you come along and pick up your race number, timing chip & goodie bag for the event. IT
IS COMPULSORY FOR ALL RIDERS TO ATTEND! At registration there will be
detailed map of the course, the final starting list.
Registration venue and time details are available on the
"Registration" page.
Where and when is registration?
Full details on the "Registration" page.
What if I can't make the date and time?
If you cannot
personally make it to registration, you must send someone in your place
to collect your starters pack. In the case of tandems, only one
individual needs to attend registration, however, all are welcome.
What do I get at registration?
Your goodie bag includes the following:
• Timing Chip
• Helmet Number
• Plus really great sponsors goodies!
Safety on the day
Are the roads closed?
In a word, NO. A
road is never closed, there will always be vehicles on it. The
roads used are open to traffic and you must keep left at all
times and obey all road rules as well as the instructions of
all officials.
What are the road rules applying to us athletes?
Standard road rules
that apply to motorists and cyclists apply to all athletes during the
event. Consider the road rules as you would on any other day. There are
marshals on corners. Please respect what they have to say and follow
their directions for your own safety.
What type of bike will I need?
As
the event is on sealed roads it is an advantage to have a
road bike but that good old mountain bike will be fine with a set of
road tires .
Do I have to wear a helmet?
Yes. No exceptions. No helmet - No event!
What happens if I get a flat tire or my bike breaks?
Unless you can fix
the problem yourself that might be the end of your ride for the day.
There will be a Sag wagon and a tail end charlie vehicle to assist those
riders unable to finish. We suggest you take a quick course in
changing a flat tire, and have a general idea about how to put a chain
back on. These are the only problems that we have encountered in our
events. There will be marshals on intersections who might be able to
give you a hand if you need one.
OTHER DETAILS
Timing and event numbers
How are we timed?
Timing is done with
the electronic "Champion Chip" timing system. Riders wear their
bracelet with the timing chip on it around their ankle. As the chips go
across the timing mats, their signal is recorded.
What happens if I lose my timing chip?
Chips are issued at
registration. If you forget or lose your chip in the 12 hours between
registration and event start, we will issue you with a new chip for $30
cash. Bond is refundable on return of the lost chip. If you lose your
chip during the event, make a note of where you lost it in the event,
and take as many cues as you can for your finish time. For example,
have someone time your event or time it yourself. Note what person you
finish with in the finish chute (i.e. their number) so we can have a
crack at figuring out where you should have finished. Note down
these details and email us after the race, as there is a million
things on at the time, and we are likely to forget.
Remember a lost chip will cost you $50.00.
Where do I wear my event number?
Event numbers are stickers and worn on your helmet for the entire event. Please
make sure your number is on your helmet for recording numbers with photos, should the timing mats miss you.
